Series Goes Inside Investigations from the Enforcement Files of NASAA Members
WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 8, 2020)—The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) today announced the launch of “Real Life Regulators,” a podcast featuring investment fraud cases from the files of state and provincial securities regulators and discussing how these regulators bring fraudsters to justice.
“Through this podcast we hope listeners will have a better understanding of what investment fraud looks like and the role of state and provincial securities regulators in protecting investors,” said Christopher W. Gerold, Chief of the New Jersey Bureau of Securities and President of NASAA, the membership organization of state and provincial securities regulators in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Real Life Regulators” is produced by the Life Stages Project Group of NASAA’s Investor Education Section. In the premier episode, investigators and lawyers from the Connecticut Department of Banking’s Securities and Business Investment Division, discuss how an unscrupulous financial advisor took advantage of a widowed client and drained her investment account to pay down debt and spend on personal expenses, including limousines, expensive dinners and sporting events.
“We are excited to bring true crime stories straight from the investigative files of the securities regulators closest to investors. By taking listeners through the investigative process, we provide an insider’s view of how to identify an investment scam, which is one key to investor protection,” said Lynne Egan, Montana’s Deputy Securities Commissioner and chair of NASAA’s Investor Education Section.
“Real Life Regulators” is available on iTunes and Google Play and on the NASAA website, here. NASAA also produces a separate podcast, NASAA Talks, focused on policy and compliance matters of interest to investment professionals. NASAA Talks is available on the NASAA website.
