Mutual Fund Industry Experts, Regulators to Gather Sept. 13 in New York

WASHINGTON (September 7, 2004) —The North American Securities Administrators Association, Inc., (NASAA) is bringing together leading mutual fund industry experts and regulators for a public forum on Rule 12b-1 plans, September 13 in New York City. The “NASAA Listens” Forum will be held 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. in the Astor Room of the Inter-Continental Barclay Hotel, 111 East 48th Street. A live webcast of this event will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The Forum, which includes a luncheon, will examine Rule 12b-1 plans in light of the evolution of the mutual fund industry and discuss whether the rule continues to meet its intended purpose. Texas Securities Commissioner Denise Voigt Crawford will moderate the Forum, which will feature a panel of fund industry, legal and regulatory experts, including:

  • John C. Bogle, Vanguard Group founder and former CEO;
  • Stuart J. Kaswell, Partner and Chair of the Broker-Dealer Practice Group, Dechert LLP;
  • Elizabeth Krentzman, General Counsel, Investment Company Institute;
  • Richard M. Phillips, Senior Partner and Head of Securities, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart; and
  • Wisconsin Securities Administrator Patricia Struck.
